For many the Land Rover is THE 4x4 vehicle. To others it´s farming equipment. On the upside, the Land Rover is a large and strong 4x4 that can carry many passangers and/or luggage. It has a tow bar and we can provide a trailer if you need more luggage space or want to rent or bring bikes. On the down side, the Land Rover doesn´t go fast nor is it the most quiet and comfortable car.

We don´t  just rent you a car and send you out into the unknown.
We are all about personal service and professional expertise. We will:

• Provide you with maps with your route marked
• Help you plan your self drive vacation if you wish for a small planning fee
• Provide you with an Icelandic mobile phone with all the necessary numbers.
• Give you a basic lesson on how to operate your 4x4 and what to watch out for on Icelandic roads.
• Provide you with a Nature Explorer handbook that includes:
  - Information on places of interest on your route
  - Translation of nature names etc so you can better understand Icelandic road signs and sights
  - Your hotel info, useful phone numbers and vouchers

At Iceland Private Tours we belief in honest good service with full disclosure, therefore we will not hide the following in the fine print. To our knowledge the following rules apply at all Icelandic car rentals:

• No insurance covers crossing unbrigded rivers and streams.
• No insurance covers the undercarriage of the vehicle.

Basically it means if you loose or damage the rental car in river, you´re liable.
If you damage the undercarriage you are liable. Keep this in mind when planning your self drive. If you plan to visit places like Thorsmork Nature Reserve where you need to cross about 20 glacial rivers and streams, you might be saving money by going on one of our Super-Jeep tours rather than risking having have to pay for a new Land Rover.
